Importers ask us daily: what is the PPGI coil price per ton from China? There is no single number — price moves with the hot-rolled substrate market, zinc coating weight, paint system and thickness. This guide explains each cost component so you can compare quotes correctly.
The 5 Components of PPGI Price
| Component | Share of Cost | What Changes It |
|---|---|---|
| Base steel (HRC/CRC) | 60-70% | Market price, thickness, grade |
| Zinc coating | 8-12% | Z80 vs Z180 — heavier zinc costs more |
| Paint system | 8-15% | PE cheapest, SMP mid, PVDF premium |
| Processing + packing | 5-8% | Coil weight, export packing spec |
| Freight | varies | FOB vs CFR/CIF, destination port |
Why Thin PPGI Costs More per Ton
A 0.30mm coil needs more rolling passes than 0.50mm, so the price per ton rises as thickness falls. If your market sells by sheet area rather than weight, thinner coil can still earn more per ton — calculate coverage: one ton of 0.40mm x 1000mm PPGI gives roughly 318 m2 of sheet.
How to Get an Accurate Quote Fast
Send these six items and a mill can quote within 24 hours: thickness, width, zinc coating (Z), paint (PE/SMP/PVDF), RAL color, quantity and destination port. Vague RFQs get slow, padded quotes.
FAQ
Is cheaper always worse?
Not always — but check zinc coating and paint film thickness on the mill test certificate. A quote 30 USD/ton cheaper often hides Z60 zinc instead of Z100.
